I was born in Naples and raised in Capua, in the province of Caserta, in a simple family living in a large park in the suburbs. At home we used to listen to the Beatles and a lot of international music with beautiful melodies.
My brother studied guitar while I only played football! Then I once attended his band rehearsals, and seeing those sweaty guys, crammed into a small room with a few friends watching and listening, trying in every way to make it better, to play it properly, I said to myself: "I want to be part of it too". BUT I did not play any instrument at the time, just strummed the guitar and never in public. So the only way to make music was SINGING.
In 2000 I started to play with a band We were called "Sir Psycho Sexy" at the beginning. Then we became the "Sleeping Beauty", and we played for about 8 years, self producing our records, playing concerts around and gathering money in a common fund, in view of subsequent productions. And trying to do it with people who feel the same way.
As Sleeping Beauty we had many concerts, lots of rehearsals, much research. We also played in a few beautiful festivals, opening concerts to notable bands (Meganoidi , Giardini di Mirò, A Toys Orchestra, and more). They were good times when we grew up and learnt a lot.
When Sleeping Beauty split up in 2008, I started with The Disappearing ONE, which recorded in the studio some of the songs I had written alone in my bedroom, with the passion for guitars and home recording that in the meantime had taken hold.
Also The Disappearing One played many gigs, selfproducing all our records and opening for bands like PERTURBAZIONE, THE NIRO (whith whomn we then made a duet in the third album), BENVEGNÙ, MALFUNK, PLAN DE FUGA and others.
Meanwhile, I took part in other side projects:
OLD SUNS OF A BITCH (2010) with The Huge and Marco Normando. Music dribbled remotely, via the Internet, and recorded at home;
SADNESS IS A FAR AWAY GUITARIST (2011) with three mebers from The Disappearing One, in a time when our guitarist was in America for research;
THIS IS NOT A BROTHEL (2014) combo with 4 other musicians from Caserta: Dino Cuccaro, Antonio Zannone, Giuseppe Diotiaiuti, Dario Emanuele (later substituted by Angelo Miccoli)
At some point, however, I felt necessary to make a record of my own, finally introducing myself with my real name. Surname in truth.
I do not know what else to add. Listening to music takes most of my time, every day, and my references are many, some stronger than others, despite having always tried to make music my own way, by coming to terms with my limitations of self-taught musician. Glen Hansard and a certain Irish scene (Mic Christopher, Damien Rice and Emmett Tinley more than others), characterized by a strong human component and the genuine and true approach to music. But I listen to pretty much everything: Jeff Buckley, Band of Horses, Dallas Green, First Starsailor, Coldplay First, Mark Kozelek, Broken Social Scene, Kevin Drew, Sun Kil Moon but also TOOL, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Interpol, Elbow, Wilco. A lot of music from the 90's.
Maybe I could say somethingabout my debut solo album.
It's called the "About Places". These are songs inspired by the places I've lived, loved and hated. Obviously I was often not alone there, and that's why I also tell of relationships, people, hopes and fears. Four close friends of mine played in this record. With them I shared many "places", primarily those with live music, as rehearsal rooms, or stages, or concerts that we have seen together. They are: Dino Cuccaro (drums), Marco Normando (bass), Gianluca Plomitallo (plans), Gianluca D'Alessio (cello), Ferdinand Ghidelli (pedal steel guitar) and Francesco Tedesco (electric guitars). Francesco was also the main responsible of the "sound" of this record, as co-producer and also a sound engineer with his independent label "I Make Records".
This is my solo album debut, and I am glad not to be alone, both as a band and as a co-producer and label.
